The Arcane Stellar State of Elementium is one of the largest sovereign nations of the Mezant, spanning across up to eighteen solar systems in two star systems. It is considered by some to be the leader of the Astral Dominance Alliance, and is the long-time rival of the Elarion Technocratic Federation, having seen competition with Elarion and the allies of the latter in technology, military power, and societal development.
Background[]
Origins & Advancement[]
Elementium's home race, the mammalian Zid, are native to the planet of Morvrid, the fifth planet in the Zellian solar system. They emerged in the 4th Mezant century, and cultivated social values of discipline and a rigid feudalist economic system where the lords held arcane technologies. These arcane technologies and resources, along with that from other civilizations, set the stage for the Zid civilization's ascendance to outer space by the mid to late 4th century, with the use of arcane wormholes across Elementium space. The Zid's particularly fast technological development was also enabled by their values of discipline, community and security. The era of conflict that ensued after the dawn of spacefarers in the Mezant star system emboldened the Zid as a race, cementing unity and nationalism in the face of external threats.
Cultivation of Foreign Relations and Militarist Regime[]
After the conflict in the 5th Mezant century, the State of Elementium would form warm relations with the Andromeda Hegemony and Dræthis, securing continued technological and economic support from them and spacefarers who, along with Elementium, would come to form the Astral Dominance Alliance later. The 6th Mezant century saw the rise of a militaristic dictatorship in Morvrid, amidst the radicalization of the Astralies. This regime is noted for its economic policies which introduced resource overconsumption and corruption, and its handling of overpopulation in the form of deportations to rim planets.
Elementium's arcane technology dealt Morvrid nearly a century of military and economic dominance, with the research and development of soul-killer cannons and entropy-inducing fields, and arcane monopoly goods unique to Elementium, generating swathes of revenue from trade with other friendly empires. Much of the economic benefit was allocated to military and engineering spending, furthering research efforts. During this time, Zid society was strictly controlled, each planet holding very little to no autonomy. Private study of arcane technology was outlawed, and civilians lived under arcane-assisted state surveillance.
Rise of the Bloodline Party, Further Advancement, and Modern Era[]
In 6938 Mezant Year, the fascist regime was overthrown in a large-scale revolution on Morvrid, and led to a shift to a small-sized government based on communalist ideals. This kickstarted Elementium's tempestuous train of governments. Eleven years later, the small-sized government was overthrown by the Elementium Space Naval Forces in a large-scale coup in which psychic politicians manipulated the Stellarmancer into relinquishing rule and allowing the plotters to take power and transform Elementium into a psychic-based meritocracy. In 6695 MY, Elementium made a transition to democracy, and the new democratic government lasted only four years before the first-ever Stellarmancer election resulted in the victory of the Bloodline Party, who introduced a style of governance utilizing technologically advanced arcane phenomena. Then-Stellarmancer, ManaReev, revived feudalism and Elementium's xenophobic foreign policy, but also rose the economy. During the first ten years of their rule, Elementium's colonial initiative flourished, with Nimirith, Chang-Er, and four other planets settled by the Zid between 6944 and 6949. Two of the other planets were named Phaeton III and Kani V. By then, Elementium held ten planets, and was a leading military and economic power, thanks to its arcane technology.
In 7000, Elementium invaded Elarion, which spanned a single solar system, starting the First Elarion-Elementium War. Two years later, Elarion had fallen under Elementium's occupation. The occupied planets, especially Aetheron, Aris, and Vexarion, were used for experimenting with new arcane technology bolstering scrying capabilities, allowing the government to know of star systems far from Morvrid and outside of Elementium. This technology would allow the Stellarmancer to instantly recognize and suppress any resistance to the Arcanate, the executive branch of Elementium forming the bulk of the government. In 7010, Elarion military forces in exile mounted surprise attacks on Aris and Aetheron, as well as occupying Elementium forces; in three years, Elarion had reclaimed their home system, and occupied frontier planets within 800 light years of Elementium's rim. Elarion was the strongest nation in the Pact of Nationhood, now actually rivalling Elementium. Despite losing the Second Elarion-Elementium War which saw Elarion liberated, the Elementium economy remained the strongest of the Astralie powers, with arcane technology continuing to serve as monopoly goods across the Mezant and nearby star systems.
Elementium continued its colonial endeavours in the mid-7010s, outside of the Mezant System. Most of the colonized planets have fewer than several thousand habitants, and were used to develop, test and improve military technologies. In 7012, Elementium's Administrations of Security, Science, Arcane Technology, and Memetics invested in experimental battlefield memetic weapons that have yet to enter service into the Elementium Naval Forces. In 7017, the title 'Stellarmancer' became 'Technomancer' after RegaMav became the leader of Elementium. RegaMav had a less militaristic stance than his predecessors, nonetheless low-level hostilities ensued between Elementium and Elarion in 7022 in the midst of heightened tensions between the Astralies and their interstellar rival, the Pact of Nationhood.
