Air Marshal Arthur Douglas Brittan (19 Apr 1893 - 30 Sep 1968) was a Georgeland aviator, military officer, diplomat and statesman who served as the 5th President of Georgeland from 1958 to 1962. He was the first President appointed by parliament, following constitutional changes in 1956 and the third president drawn from the military.
Brittan was a World War I veteran who served in the Royal Georgeland Flying Corps and was one of Georgeland's most decorated aces. From 1922 to 1926 he was the Head of Aeronautical Engineering in the Georgeland Army and, on independence in 1929, Brittan was made the first Chief of the Air Force. At 36, he remains the youngest person to hold flag officer rank in Georgeland's history. Credited as the 'Father of the Air Force', Brittan served as the chief of the air force until 1950, a tenure of 21 years. In that year he was appointed Georgeland's inaugural High Commissioner to India. From 1954 to 1957, Brittan was Commandant of the National Air Force Academy. In 1957 he was made Ambassador to Pakistan.
Brittan was appointed President in 1958 and served a single term, retiring in 1962. He was succeeded by William Addison. He died in 1968.
