Aurora, officially the City of Aurora, is the 17th largest city in Derrial, with a proper population as of 2022 of 26,944. The city is located in northern Derrial and is in the Greater Esken region, a touristic hub in Odetia. The city is the capital of Columbus County, Derrial's 16th largest county by population.

The city has consistently been ranked among the top cities to live in Odetia due to its high standard of living, robust economy, and low crime rates. Its economy is the largest dependent on tourism, as the city is on the crossroad of many major touristic attractions, such as Esken and the Derrial Mountains.

History[]

The city of Aurora was established in 1887 by Danish and later on German immigrants at the convergence of the Malbeth River and Derrial Mountains, Aurora's economy lied on the agriculture and cattle ranching brought by its European immigrants. In the 1970s, the city was in severe debt, facing economic challenges, and on the brink of bankruptcy, however, the community leveraged its breathtaking mountain views to pivot towards tourism. Since then, the city has experienced an economy boom.

The city is also the birthplace of Benjamin Didriksen, where he lived with his family from his birth in 1898 until 1914.

Geography[]

The city that is located on a plateau on the Derrial Mountains, making the city develop from the east to west axis. The Malbeth River runs through the city, through the valley where it is located. In its northern and southern parts, the city is surrounded by mountains, making the climate cooler.

Climate[]

Aurora lies within the north temperate zone, having a humid subtropical (Cfa, according to the Köppen climate classification) in the downtown and Cfb in its outskirts. Despite its mild northerly location, Aurora has four well-defined seasons, mainly as a result of its high topography. The lowest official temperature registered in the city was -8.8°C (17.42°F) in Spengler Peak on January 4th, 1903, while the highest official temperature was 36.2°C (97.2°F) in downtown on August 1st, 1933.
