Nations that have ratified the Boston Protocol
The Boston Protocol on Radioactive Weapons is an international agreement that bans all forms of radioactive weapons (such as atomic, hydrogen and other fission weapons). The protocol's objective is to be ratified among all nations. Any nations that ratify are prevented from building new fission weapons, and nations that have a stock of fission weapons must have their arsenals replaced with the equivalent fusion weapon within six months. Fusion weapons are the non-radioactive equivalent of a fission (nuclear) weapon. The agreement also contains a sub-section that bans the use of any form of weapon of mass destruction on a civilian populus. The treaty was opened for signature on December 18, 2008, after its drafting in Boston, which is where the treaty gets its name.
