Royal Colors[]

LoricaRoyalColors

Left, the eight royal materials. Right, the eight royal silks.

The royalty has access to materials of certain special, rare colors. The eight royal metals/materials and eight silks are the most difficult to replicate, even by the most talented rogue magi, and thus are especially designated as items giving the bearer a great, if not royal, importance.

Clothing[]

The eight royal silks are used in clothing. Each brings with it a certain level of power in the Lorican hierarchy provided they are used prominently in clothing. All of the royal silks are far more brilliantly reflective than their typical counterparts and scintillate a spectrum of colors (represented by the color gradient in each color box) in the light, so they can't be replicated by mere dyes. Prominently wearing silks that one is not qualified to wear can put one in jail (a very small amount doesn't count).

Gold silk[]

The emperor is the only person who is allowed to wear gold silk. Hence it has become one of the most notable symbols of the emperor. Anyone else wearing gold silk is punishable by death because it implies that the wearer wishes to become emperor. (Similar infringements on other silk types do not warrant execution.) The emperor's clothes are more generally called "golden robes".

Violet silk[]

All government officials are required to wear violet silk clothes to government and administrative meetings. The "violet robes", as they are called, are decorated differently depending on the official's rank (different designs). Those who do not have the status may not wear violet robes with that particular design. Those who are not officials (or higher) may not wear them at all. Officials may temporarily wear violet robes corresponding to lower tiers if they wish, but this is frowned upon.

Blue silk[]

Restricted to maidservants servicing the imperial palace. Maidservants are generally required to wear "blue robes" (actually light blue robes) when on duty.

All other silks[]

The other five silks - the "flowery silks" - are restricted to:

  • People in the royal family
  • People who have been gifted with a robe of one of these "flowery silks" as an honor by the emperor may wear that particular robe. This is not an uncommon gift as it changes social perceptions but doesn't change powers like a loricae power gift would.
  • Vestal virgins (a handful of women who occupy a unique role in Lorican religious society)
  • People who hold certain important positions in the government hierarchy, such as the Ceremoniat (The emperor's right-hand man who presides over imperial court proceedings along with the emperor).
  • People who have been Entrusted (given a special assignment) by the emperor, while they are so entrusted (this is generally a temporary position).
