The Department of State (often referred to as State), is the Ivalician foreign ministry. It is the federal executive department responsible for international diplomatic operations of Ivalice. The Department was created in 1619 and was the first executive department established.
The Department is headquartered in the Michael Wellington Building, located at 5 Grosvenor Square, SW, in the Embassy Row neighborhood of Koiwai. The Department operates the diplomatic missions of Ivalice abroad and is responsible for implementing the foreign policy of Ivalice and coordinating its diplomacy efforts.
The Department is led by the Secretary of State, who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate and is a member of the Cabinet. The Secretary of State is the first Cabinet official in the order of precedence and in the presidential line of succession (fourth overall, after the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and the highest ranking Senator). The current Secretary of State is R. Sandino Ramirez.
