Halure (Halurean: Sukuwin or Abidawin) is a country located between Easter Island or Rapa Nui and the South American Continent. Due to strong currents, deep seas and its distance from land it is very isolated and was one of the last inhabited places on Earth. It's one of the largest Islands on earth and home to many diverse ethnic groups such as the indigenous Halurean who are split into many subgroups who inhabit the various areas around the country, however they aren't the only Ethnic group on the island as Polynesians from Easter Island inhabit the northern Yewin Province plus the Dutch and Spanish who live around settlements on the East Coast in Boerwin and Haloor Province. Currently the country is rapidly being propelled into the future with the construction of many reservoirs around the country to provide drinking water, the building of massive Railways to transport people around the country and many housing projects to help the poorest and most vulnerable of the country. The Suyewin is a conurbation comprised of the three main cities of Bonwain, Sashwain and Rewewain, this is a special Economic Zone which is home to a large and growing bustling city which is becoming the HQ for many companies whishing to take advantage of the current prosperity in Halure.

The country is a member of the UN, UNASUR, OECD and several other nations. It has a neutral view on world affairs with popular opinion being that they shouldn't intervine in other countries business. The government if Halure is also very different to that of many other nations with it having a One-Party coalition of all the parties in government who choose policies of the government via polls, this is considered however a very corrupt system to outsiders and it involves a lot of arguments however many Halureans are proud of their unique system. Their Unique system also promotes Neutrality and pacifism (which is ironic after the many massive wars fought over Halure's 4000 year history).

History[]

Etymology[]

Halure comes from the name of the City Halure which was the first place for the Spanish colonizers to land, they walked though the forests outside the city and stumbled across some people. They asked them where they were and the men replied Haluwain, their local guide translated it wrongly due to the fact he couldn't understand much of what the local man was saying since he spoke with a thick Halurean accent, therefore he translated Wain= City as Win= Land, meaning the Spanish named it Terra Halu which was over time translated to Halure.

Early History[]

Stone tools

Several Ancient Stone Tools found in Halure

Halure was first inhabited by Stone-Age Southern Americans who sailed over the Pacific Ocean onto the coast around Halwain/Halure City. They have shown signs of living in small semi-nomadic communities who wandered the vast wilderness that covered the country following the herds of Llamas (Halurean: Doochi) and gathering fruits from the trees and shrubs around the landscape. These were a simple people with primitive tools and clothes living in rather sophisticated wooden huts constructed from the Arfowas tree, those wooden huts are the base design for most traditional architecture and housing in Halure today. It was also in these early stages when the Polynesian peoples moved into the Yewain area of the country, they seemed to be low on supplies and malnourished meaning they couldn't set up a traditional Polynesian colony, instead they seemed to have to base their culture on the peoples around them meaning they may speak a Polynesian Language and have many Polynesian traditions. However, they live and work in a Halurean way, blending both of the cultures.

These people eventually split into many ethnic groups around the country from the Deltas of the South to the Mountains of the north, they were all based upon these primitive and basic peoples. The Halurean society began to take shape around the time of the Punic Wars, they had begun to settle around the lush fertile river valleys in the centre of the country, on the flood plains of the main three rivers: Hen, Lo and Ren they constructed several small farming communities each independent forming sort of a tribal system, they generally farmed the Halurean Patato or Siwit and several varieties of Beans which grew naturally in these areas providing a staple food for the Halurean Population. These communities fought violently with many mass graves being found around the country, this shows it was a time of mass killing due to the fact Halurean Tradition says the bones must be washed and cremated for the Sun God 'Anay/Anai'. These tribal wars in the centre of the country caused mass violence and the lack of advancement in technologies etc. However in the southern Delta region the Vrede Culture began to develop, this showed advanced weaponry for any Halurean culture and that attention to art and design in pottery was valuable, they also had primitive canal systems constructed throughout the delta for Travel between settlements.

City States and The Thoorwain Empire[]

Rini City States

The Three Main City States of the Rini

The Vrede Culture began to expand and thrive however several city states began to dominate the Agenda, the three main ones were Kewain, Nikowain and Thoorwain. These city states had begun to trade using a system of decimals simm\ilar to the Halurean Tribal Counting System (which is in turn similar to the Tally System), they traded generally food and materials which were preserved using the Sugaring Process which is believed to be a reason why many Halurean Foods are sweet and 'dessertish'. Their trading was often peaceful and as there was no lack of resources and land due to the fertility and size of the delta. This meant that the tribal wars of the north could never theoretically spread to the south without several factors being put into place such as a major disaster, a revolution or an invasion. The City states began to form into several pacts and alliances with each other. However, due to the lack of a writing system to record these, they were often broken or forgot about leading to hostilities and troubles in the Delta, this led to what is now known as the Deed (pronounced: Deh-ehd) Writing system. Unlike the Alphabets and Hieroglyphics of Eurasia the Deed system is a Syllabary much like the Kana Scripts used to write Japanese. The Deed system was created by a man of the same name who lived in Nikowain, he documented his life in detail in his new scrip writing everything down in what we'd call a diary. He legendarily invented the script after he saw the stick in the rivers form 'symbols', he then decided to use sticks to write his new syllabry, they then transferred this 'stick' writing onto several palm leaves and in clay which would then set leaving a text inside it.

Rini Delta from the Air

A Section of the Rini Delta from the Air

The invention of writing for the city states greatly advanced their capabilities however this also caused the surrounding smaller city states and tribes to grasp this information meaning that overnight most of the population of Halure had the ability to write, however this caused much trouble for the City States as they began to feel threatened by Barbarian Tribes from outside the Delta, Thoorwain came to a conclusion: Conquer or be Conquered. Thoorwain began its expansion by sending many people out to the East of the city which was sparsely inhabited even though it was home to lush fertile river plains which run down from the north of the country. They settled and began what was the first civilization to have more than one Major city in Halure. The new land was renamed Suthoorwin or East Thoorwain Land, this became a bread basket for the city as it provided many people food which was becoming more and more expensive, this led to Thoorwain dominating the market with the other city states needing to trade more and more to sustain their population eventually Thoorwain proposed a 'merger' between Kewain and Thoorwain creating an Empire Dominating the North and West of the Delta, they agreed as long as they remained a small Duchy in charge of their lands. The 3rd Major city state Nikowain was quickly overcome and invaded establishing a large empire across the southern delta, it was fed by farmers to the West and centred its commercial interests in the Three former city states to the East.

Stability and Decline[]

The Empire was very stable and peaceful over the next 100 years when it was at its peak. It was regarded as one of the most advanced empires in the world at the time (AD 500) with a system of roads used for communication and several cultural texts written down in a writing system still used today. This period of stability is often regarded as one of the proudest times in Halurean History with people often referring to it as one of the Great things about Halure, much like several Westerners may refer to the Roman Empire as a high point in Western Civilization, this is evident when you arrive at any sight of major importance connected with one of the major empires of Halure as they often have high attendance and raise millions in funds from proud citizens. The Thoorwain Empire had a growing succession of Emperors who seemed to slowly decline in popularity and capability, this caused a decline in the Empire with people becoming more and more restless with the situation.

Thoorwain Fortress

The Thoorwain Fortress

The inevitable colapse of the Thoorwain Empire wasn't a conventional collapse as one might think with it all falling apart at once, instead the Empire slowly declined loosing land to warlords and dukes creating a more tribal society, eventually Thoorwain didn't collapse but shrunk and split up with the city becoming a city state as before. This period was a very confusing time with many warlords becoming strong and powerful but in a matter of months falling and being replaced. If you lived in this time a knowledge of weaponry was handy in fighting off bandits who often roamed around the former country looking for things to steal, the only place of relative sanctuary was in a Temple where it was considered very shocking and any person could be hanged for even accidentally damaging part of a Temple. In this period it is considered a dark age due to the fact that much like in Medieval Europe arts and science was frowned upon and people often considered men with weaponry skills and muscles more of an attractive person.

Rise of the North[]

In the north of the country in contrast to the south they were beginning to advance much like the city states of the south, this was round 200 years after the collapse of the Thoorwain Empire (around AD 750) when the northern Halureans began to trade in greater quantities, this can be seen in archaelogical evidence. This expansion of trade required a more grander infrastructure system with roads and running water needed to fund the growth. This created a large set of around 14 Kingdoms in the north of the country with greater capacity to trade and expand, this caused them to be a hub for trading all along the coast and Halure River System with tribes getting involved as well. The Ancient Halurean Culture created small kingdoms who used the river systems and new roads to create a large interconnected set of Kingdoms, they has small walled cities which would be difficult for any 'uncivilized' people to get into without much time and effort put into the process. These cities were also laid out in a grid much like the ones in modern day USA and other countries, they however aren't as sophisticated as we assume since they seem to only be able to create basic dirt roads by chopping down forest to walk on, their water systems were probably just open sewers and rivers would have been a main source of water.

Img012

They however were on a slow path to a relatively advanced American civilization, they often fought each other and began to fortify their cities in more than Mud walls but with clay and even stone in some cases, these however were rare and only for the largest cities. The city life was described by many in recorded texts as foul and putrid, to be a city worker was also considered unreligious as it blocked out sunlight from the sky with the buildings and the Sun was considered holy therefore leading to the belief that City life is unholy and many people still consider this a fact up to today with many Tribes holding onto that fact.

Over the next 350 years (up to 1100) the North gradually advanced meanwhile several areas of the country especially around river valleys gained the knowledge to farm and write, this provided an overall higher standard of living for the general population of Halure at the time. Many people consider this a very positive thing however this brought along with it more competition in general across the nation meaning that Halurean states had to up their game' meaning they needed to expand their infrastructure and develop better weapons, Longer Swords and Bows were preferred to what was previously used (which was much smaller), they also developed shields which hadn't been used much in the older generation of Halurean History. These states continued to dominate and compete for trade often fighting as to gain trade with a tribe or country.

Europeans and Chaos[]

By 1500 the north of the country was home to two major Kingdoms Halure and Quein (both Europeanized spellings), they had large influence over swathes of land in the north of the country. Halure City had grown to become a large port made out of wooden stilt houses lying on the riverbank with ladders and boats, they were walled and contained large markets some the size of a village all designed to trade a wide range of products such as food and animals. Halure City was the largest city in Halure at the time. However, the second largest was the capital of Quein (Halurean: Kewin), Yeiswain which was much like Halure except it lies in a small valley surrounded by Jungle at the widening of a small creek which widens into an average river. It was built as a place to harvest timber and animals, it was a preferred hunting spot by the King of Quein who decided to move his capital to their and was followed by

These two competing Kingdoms and Cities had to compete for trade as it was required to gain money to run the Kingdoms and its society. The Wars of Chaos (or War of One million Pages or The Great Halurean War) were some of the largest, longest wars in history lasting for around 90 years involving the Queinian and Halurean Kingdoms and their allies plus the late arrival of Spanish and Dutch Colonists. The war began around 1520 when the two Kingdoms fell out over a disputed tribe that they were trading with between them, they began slowly with small skirmishes on the border with only small casualties and few killings however it gradually gained pace and by 1540 almost every nation in Halurean Culture was sucked into it. The first major battle of the war to be recorded was the Battle of Ochash when the Queinian Army met up with several Halurean aligned tribes who existed in the hills, they were ambushed and the battle was essentially a massacre. Meanwhile in the East of Halure around ten years later the Spanish sighted a landmass they named San Lorenzo however this name wouldn't stick. They didn't land on the landmass but instead sailed past and claimed it for the Spanish. Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe passed by Halure again where they report tribes men shouting in a foreign tongue and throwing rocks, they were dispersed by the firing of a rifle.

Espanola Ridge Cave

The first Spanish landing was round 1600 was a group of Explorers led by Carlos Manzana, they led a group of settlers and founded the Colony of San Lorenzo on the beach of the bay around their ship, they set up a small fishing community and survived by guidance form the natives. They began to grow in size and the Spanish colony was set up. They set out to explore the Jungle, this clashed with the Siege of Yeiswain in which the Halureans besieged the city for around three months prior. The Spanish marched over through the forest which was filled with Tribes fighting for the Halureans and Queinians, they managed to march though the Tribal war and camped in the caves around Espanola Ridge overlooking the city, soon after realizing their position they looked out and saw the Armies of Halure and Quein fighting whilst behind them was the large fighting between the numerous tribes. The Spanish receiving word from the explorers sent out a rescue party to try and save the trapped men, however they greatly underestimated the scale and size of the Chaos occurring around them, the search party lost many men however they made it to the Explorers and were then trapped in the caves with them. On the coast at San Lorenzo the Dutch were in dire need for money and trade to expand their new empire. The newly independent Netherlands offered their former masters the Spanish a deal, if they rescued the Spanish explorers they would be allowed to freely settle on Halure without war or aggression towards the Dutch. The Dutch Expedition began from San Lorenzo and trekked through the forest for several weeks, they eventually reached the Espanola Ridge after several small skirmishes with various tribal groups and army men all seeking to murder and kill all that either don't support the conflict or support the opposition. The Europeans were recorded in several accounts of the War as Albinos who live in groups.

The Dutch found them in dire condition with water low and the only help being from a set of local children who fled their village from the violence. The Surrounding area was filled with warriors and fires burning to stop advancing armies, life was Horrible. The Dutch and Spanish reluctantly allied merged to form one European Group which main goal was to just get out of there. They Began to fight back using Guns and the limited ammo they had, they killed many in their path of destruction, this was however on a minor scale compared to the massive tribal fighting, forest fires, siege and genocide occurring around them, as it wasn't just the two armies fighting, they were fighting themselves over age old quarrels and small things which had exploded into massive conflicts, This was truly chaos. The Dutch eventually after weeks of stops and fighting they made it over the Hills, fulfilling their quest meaning the were free to colonize Halure whenever they pleased wherever they pleased. The Spanish felt disheartened by the fact they had theoretically lost large swathes of land to the Dutch they agreed and the Treaty of San Lorenzo granted the Dutch the freedom to colonize parts of the country south of the accepted line of separation.

The Wars of Chaos were winding down around this time as well, the Halureans had basically defeated the Queinians and they had taken their Capital leaving many of them displaced in the mountains and high river gorges. The Halureans had total domination over the north of the country, the rest of the country was either comprised of trading tribes or small usually isolated city states. The Wars of Chaos, however, had scared off many of the Spanish and Dutch for searching over the hills leaving the Halureans to Expand and Conquer large areas of the northern Interior. By 1660 the Halurean Empire stretched to around the modern day boundaries of Haluwin Region.

The Quiet Period and Puppets[]

The Empire of Halure was relatively large, it was around the same size as modern day Ukraine, however it was surrounded by smaller Tribes who had transformed into Kingdoms after the Chaos. They Technically weren't independent but instead Puppet stated who constantly provided income and wealth to the Halurean elite whilst they toiled in poverty. This time is also know as the Quiet or Peaceful period as it is considered 'boring' and the calm after the storm due to the fact Halure was blooming with few enemies, Spain and the Netherlands were to scared to go over the hills to colonize leaving the centre of the continent quiet with many tribes coexisting and trading without much interference. Halure wasn't very aware of the existence of San Lorenzo and the new Dutch colony of Zeehaven to the east of it. However, they had come into contact on at least two occasions with the Spanish claiming that Pained Men from over the hills were seen trading by the tribes, the second occasion was the Spanish ship off the Halurean coast being approached by a 'fishing boat' however they were soon scared off by an accidental gunfire. These are the only times in the Quiet Period that Halure and Spain have had contact, however other contact may have been made which was unrecorded or via the numerous mountain tribes who are believed to have traded with both sides and yet remained unocuppied.

In this period the Dutch however did have some very large activity in their slow process of colonization of the Coast. They began with Zeehaven and slowly made their way down the coast by either destroying or allying with the tribes, they however took around 80 years to reach their second major colonial town of Vrede or Peace after they met many friendly tribes in and around the area of Vrede. Vrede was founded by the Historic Dutch Pioneer in Halure Jakob van Enschede (after which the main station in Vrede is Named), he set up camp on the land between the Rini Hills and Vrede Gulf, this was very marshy land as it was very close to the area in which the former empire of Thoorwain existed. He founded Vrede by creating the Vredepolder which dammed the marshy land and set up a easily defendable fortress in which the Dutch could trade and live in.

The Dark War and Discovery[]

By the time that Vrede was set up as a profitable outpost of the Dutch Empire, a recovering Spain from the wars of succession became very jealous of the large and profitable Dutch Colony, they then decided to launch an attack against the Dutch colony of Zeehaven (or Mar Puerto in Spanish) therefore breaking their treaty made after the Wars of Chaos and the crisis of Espanola Ridge. Their attack began around the middle of July 1756 when Spanish troops slowly advanced through the jungles around the Dutch colonies, they advanced unnoticed and armed with guns and tribal guides who helped their troops survive throughout the jungles. The Dutch gained word via loyal tribes who said that their villages were burned by some other white men not of Dutch tongue, they instantly suspected the Spanish due to their hatred of the fact that they let the Dutch rule lands that could have be theirs. The Dutch were then trapped with no confirmation that the Spanish were attacking however confirmation that their lands were being torched by an army they couldn't find. By August the War wasn't official

Burning Zeehaven

A Painting of Burning Zeehaven

however Spanish-Dutch Relations were at an all time low each in a secret war, this war however was about to come into the open. A set of Dutch farmers and settlers hills and jungles had set up settlements across the hilly region which was a considered very dangerous after the scare of the Wars of Chaos, they were considered crazy for going over the hills however they maintained the area of Dutch claim over the wilderness via a set of watch towers and the odd fort and it was from these the Spanish were spotted. The Settlers spotted the Spanish from afar and began signal fires to warn other settlements and eventually the Dutch in Vrede. The Dutch gained knowledge of the Spanish attack however it was too late and by the 1st of September 1756 they had overrun the city of Mar Puerto (formerly Zeehaven) and turned it into a Spanish city. Once the Dutch gained a hold over the situation there was a prolonged stalemate and eventually the Treaty of Sórchu ending Hostilities and giving Mar Puerto to the Spanish.

The Settling Dutch didn't just help them defeat the Spanish but they also started to see Halureans. The Halureans were first documented as a new tribe but when this tribe started to be documented across the Northern frontier and by several Spanish explorers they realized that it was something bigger. They sent several expeditions over the hills to set up trading posts and find out what was over the hills, these quickly established roads over the hills and trade routes, from this however they discovered that their need to build was minimal as there already were roads, so they finally sent out a party led by explorer Frans de Wit. De Wit walked along the set of roads to find out where it ended, he recorded his travels in his Diary now known as the Travels of Frans de Wit which is considered one of the best accounts of the history of Halure to this date. He eventually made it to Halure City with the help of Tribes who trade with both the Dutch and Halure. He wrote this about the city:

"The City appeared over the hills, lights gleaming in the midnight darkness, (our guide) Tesi took us down to the city. It was of monumental scale not compared to any other place with houses of Wood everywhere and everyone trying to sell or deal something, it seemed bartering was the currency. However, if that didn't resolve the deal it ended with a fight. We marched down the main road which was the first set of gravel roads I'd seen since Europe, It was like the size of two roads combined and surrounded by huts and tents of merchants again dealing. We boarded a boat and then crossed the river named Hatoor from which we saw only huts for miles and out on the Horizon a large stone fortress, the Market."

This account matches that of other Halurean writer who call it the City of Angels, City of Merchants or the Camp. There was no official name of the city but only nicknames stated above however the river was named Atur and the Dutch used this as a name for the city and eventually the Empire and the country.

Trade and Annexation[]

Halure Old Houses

Several Stilt Houses in Halure (City)

Halure, as seen in the account of De Wit was a very large city filled with merchants from all around this caused the Dutch to realize that this was a gold mine of Trade and commerce, if an alliance could be formed between the Empire and the Dutch they would create a very powerful ally however they had one problem, the Spanish. The Spanish had no idea that the Halureans were over the Hills however they could easily gain access to them via one of the mountain roads that the Halureans had built. In 1790 They decided to block all of the mountain trade routes in Halue (apart from ones connecting the Dutch land), this was seen as a bad mover by the Halureans who though that the blocking of their trade routes was unacceptable, they nearly tried to declare war however the Dutch Trade led to even more imports coming into Halure even before the blocking of the Roads.

Meanwhile in the current day Yewin province the French Ship La Rosette filled with missionaries, explorers and settlers arrived on the coast, they landed and established the fort town of Saint-Fargeau which was meant to emulate the prosperity of the Dutch and Spanish colonies. They quickly established themselves however this was a cursed town, the constant attempts to convert the local populace was seen as a sin or an evil by the local Polynesians. They recorded their hatred for the French in many texts, however they couldn't have expected what came next. Around some time in August 1795 a large storm hit the fort, the settlement was at the foot of a steep hill which meant it was very threatened by landslides and on that August day the whole fort was obliterated in a pile of mud and plants, the point where the fort was isn't even known to this day as its buildings were either washed into the sea or buried.

Back in the East the Dutch and Halureans had agreed to trade in vast amounts if they could build, several settlements in the Empire and several 'trading houses' much like a modern day embassy. The Dutch continued to settle and explore the centre of the continent and by 1800 they had annexed all the land between their territories, the Halurean Empire and the river Hen (over the hills). The Dutch only annexed this land and they hadn't settled it (or even alerted its inhabitants that they were Dutch Subjects), the Dutch also still claimed their former territory of Zeehaven/Mar Puerto. However, there was no sign that they could ever reclaim this land.

Independence and the Pacific Republic[]

Flag of Pacific Republic

The Flag of the Pacific Republic

The Spanish were suffering a very terrible spout of revolutions in South America, they were in dire need of soldiers to help support their rule in South America, the obvious thing to do is remove soldiers from peaceful Halure to the Warring states however this would have repercussions. The Halurean-Spanish armies began to leave the Spanish territories leaving them vulnerable and weak and the Dutch were there ready to pounce. They immediately attacked and by May the 14th 1818 they had overrun the whole Spanish territory with no opposition. Due to the help that the Halureans gave the colonizing Dutch they decided to split the Spanish lands across the top and award them to the Halurean Empire. This helped the Halureans Expand, and following the model of the Europeans they occupied lands to the west of the Empire along the northern coast to make it become one of the largest in empires in the world at the time (excluding colonial empires).

Inspired by the ongoing of the Spanish independence movement several Dutch settlers moved to the area around the modern day city of Kotan and began to establish a Republic intended to be free and away from foreign influence, this is considered one of the most radical and revolutionary ideas ever. They Named their new Republic, the Republic of the Pacific and created a Parliament and army based in Kotan. This was very popular with the underpaid lower classes of the Dutch Colony and many quickly moved into this new Republic. It also granted freedom to tribes and many displaced peoples moved from the Dutch and Halurean territories to settle in the Republic. This Republic Began to gain funding from many European nations after they began to adopt liberal ideas after the Napoleonic wars, they also gained funding from the USA which saw it as a Halurean counterpart. This funding and the influx of migrants from the European colonies and kingdoms led to the expansion of the country northwards to consume the modern day provinces of Walowin and Nowin (and parts of Shoonowin plus Boerwin), settlers turned the local tribes into even more inhabitants creating a large and free nation populated by many peoples of many ethnicities.

Prosperity and the Interior[]

The Pacific Republic was very prosperous with the influx of trade and sponsorships it gained much money world wide, however countries like the UK, Spain and Austria were very wary of the presence of this politically free nation fearing that it would spark off a wide scale set of revolutions causing their golden age and inflow of money to stop leading to the collapse of society in Europe. However, other countries such as France, Prussia and Sweden were very good friends with the Pacific Republic, it also had well maintained relationships with almost every South American country (especially with Argentina and Chile). The Country became a hot bed for radical ideas and thoughts, it is believed that Karl Marx even gained ideas from the Pacific Republic in its juvenile state.

A Halurean Interior Village

The Interior was a very large and uninhabited compared to the heavily populated Dutch, Halurean and Pacfic Republican Lands. It mainly consisted of uncontacted tribes and small Kingdoms, they usually wrote in the Deed Script and lived in traditional style housing. Their culture varied from place to place but was set around a leader who was chosen for life after a fight to the death. Each country of Halure claimed large swaths of the interior some peices larger that the other but they all had Claims. Even countries which didn't have bases in Halure claimed sections of the country with France claiming the north west of the country around their former colony. These claims were very unestablished until a spark set of the colonization of the Interior. The Halurean Empire felt squished and trapped between the many other imperialist empires so they decided to expand out west wards along the north coast, this created a situation for the Dutch who also claimed this territory. The Dutch who were against declaring war on Halure decided on rapid colonization and on May 1st 1823 the Dutch set out on a massive convoy to colonize the area outside their borders. They stumbled upon several tribes and began to settle in the lush areas around them. The largest city the Dutch settled was Betu, these colonists weren't very large in force but instead they had masses and masses of semi-free slaves that they used to support their claims and work on their farms. The Racism was institutionalized with the Dutch creating a Hierarchy with the Dutch on top and the Blacks on the bottom.

This mad race to colonize began to be accepted by the Pacific Republic who decided to move further north instead of inhabiting the desert to the west. They moved quickly up the River Tub towards the source of the river at Lake Tub (the hub of indigenous activity). The PR unlike the Dutch didn't restrict the settlers to where they could settle but instead allowed them to settle wherever they pleased creating a large densely populated, prosperous country dominated by the river Tub. The PR therefore had all of its people centred around the fertile valley of the Tub, however this had good affects such as the prosperity of the country but bad effects such as the cramped living quarters around the Tub River Valley.

Balkanization and the First Railways[]

The Halurean Empire, whilst everyone was expanding it was laying there without much expansion. The expansion of other countries however was having a very bad effect upon the Economy of Halure, with tribes being taken over and diverting their trade towards the Dutch and PR creating a lack of traders to trade with in Halure. The Halurean Empire relied solely upon trade which meant when this was cut off the country started to turn into a chaotic mess. The first fractures began to appear in the Halurean Empire with Riots in the south of the country leading to mass civil disorder across the country. Some people wanted to establish a Halurean Republic much like the Pacific Republic, others wanted to sustain the old order and some even wanted to join the Dutch. The Emperor however was still in charge and in control. He resided in the Palace of Angels in Halure City and was generally isolated from the rest of the general population, however on his few ventures outside of the palace the public generally praised him and cheered him this however was controlled by the Royal Guard who threatened to fire on any unpleasing crowd.

The Hate for the Emperor and his monopoly over all trade accumulated on the night of the 14th May 1854 when the Royal Guard shot a crowd of protesters creating a massive wave effect with hundreds of people began marching in protest against the monarchy. This spread throughout the country and caused massive tracts of land to be burned in the night of flames. Halure City was heavily affected with everything on the west half of the river was destroyed, luckily for the Emperor his palace is on the east half of the river. This mass protest caused the emperor to be shocked and shaken up, however the mass disorder continued for the next several weeks until the

This caused the country to descend into even more chaos and the many provinces of the Kingdom to break up and become independent and free. The three main countries that were formed out of the Balkanization of Halure were the Republic of Halure (RoH), Kingdom of Orwin (KoO) and the Dutch annexed areas of Halure, however there were other more smaller and minor nations.

At the other side of the country, around 1873 the PR was constructing its first Railways inspired by the ones found in Europe. It was run by the Southern Pacific Railway Corporation or SPRC and ran a route between Kotan and the Tub valley via Kiwain, when this railway opened there were many faults such as the broken track and the lack of safety with fatalities on the railway being very high. Although there were many deaths people used the railway on mass with millions boarding the railway over the first month. This introduction of rail to the country opened up a new way to travel from A to B. This also caught on in Dutch Halure with railways being constructed to the Robetian Gauge (5.2ft), named after Robert Vlaams, the pioneer of Dutch Rail in Halure. The Robetian-Halurean Railway Corportation or RHRC ran from Vrede and Boerendam two cities in the Rini or Delta area. It used paths by the side of old Canals built by the Thoorwain Empire. They were also very popular and this sped on the construction of railways throughout the PR and Dutch Halure.

West Coast[]

The West Coast of Halure was until around the 1890's very isolated with the only settlements being Polynesian and the former French Settlement. This all changed with the pioneering of Theo van Dorst, a Dutch Settler who wished to construct his dream grid city on the East Coast. He signed up over 1000 volunteers from around Dutch Halure to move to the other side of the country and found the city of Bonwain (originally Dorstengen, and sometimes still by Dutch Nationalists in Halure), which would be built from a Grid pattern based around a small

Bonwain Old Grid

fortification designed to protect the settlers from hostile forces. They sailed around the country and landed at the mouth of the river Sash then sailed down stream until they reached a shallow area with a narrowing of the river. They then began to construct. Using techniques borrowed from the American settlers they had built a large settlement compared to others in the country however it wasn't as big as Halure or Kotan. They slowly began to expand and invite many Dutch and locals to come live in the city, this enticing opertunity provided the city with massive growth and by 1900 the city had a population of one million and all set in a grid pattern. This inspired many other people to also set up their dream cities on the west coast. The Dutch dubed the area around this north western corner of the country 'Droomland' or Dreamland as it was a haven for the dream grid cities of the future with simmilar cities to Bonwain being constructed such as: Sashwain, Rewewain and Daorwain (these cities even inspired modern day Dream cities such as Aywain which didn't exist before 2001 but now is a major city).

These countries officially belonged to no one with them technically being independent city states however some started to ask other countries such as the PR and RoH to let them be part of their territories. They accepted and after severeral months the PR owned three out of four of the cities, whilst the RoH owned Daorwain. The Empires then realized they had a problem due to the distance so they began to expand annexing Dutch and unclaimed lands with the PR reaching from the Rini to Bonwain and the RoH reaching from East coast to the west. This greatly distabled the Dutch who saw this as a major threat towads the safety of its territories however they didn't act immediately.

The Rush, Unity and War[]

The Dutch who were feeling very threatened aligned themselfes with the KoO, the only other country who wasn't a democracy. However, they were very small and couldn't establish themselfes as a real compettitor. The PR and RoH however were still establishing their claims by setteling in a period called the Rush in which hundereds of people arrived and settled in the Centre of Halure each staking a claim. This was very quick and caused the population to be spread far appart with only two major cities still established today: Tilu and Aiwain. The Rush also led to social problems with the natives not being very used to the white man and considering them a nusence and gangs of natives used to raid the towns slaughtering the locals, these were nicknamed Keyermen after their clubs called Keys . The Keyermen became more and more popular and by 1907 the whole of the new territories were overun by the Keyermen killing the many people who settled.

A Keyerman Being Hung

A Crowd Gathered for the Hanging of a Keyerman

This seemed a prime time to attack the Republics and claim back their territories. The KoO and the Dutch mobilized many troops and sent them to the borders of the RoH and PR. The first attack was on the 2nd of December 1907 when the Dutch invaded the city of Thoorwain and began to make quick progress to Kotan, the PR was caught by supprise and had little time to mobilize, to the north the situation was the same with the KoO and Dutch quickly overunning the south of the RoH. The PR and RoH held talks over the week after the invasion and as they were coming close to being overun they decided to unite and from the Halurean Republic or HR. The Armies joined in unison with there being quite a lot of confusion however it seemed to work with the tide turned against the Dutch and KoO. The KoO was in a dire situationas they were nearly overun totally by the HR who was hell bent on wiping out the Dutch and their allies. The KoO finnally surrendered and became part of the HR.

The War in Dutch Halure seemed to be a long road however the Dutch were struck by a streak of bad luck such as the winning of the three major battles in the war, the discovery of war plans and the lack of soldiers past the front line. Once the HR broke through the front lines at one place, they were all insignificant with thousands of soldiers passing through and eventually reaching the Dutch capital of Vrede and taking over the Dutch lands.

The Silent Period: Keyermen and Fascists[]

The Silent period is a period of Halurean history between the overunning of the Dutch lands and WW2 when not much activity occurred. In the outside world things like WW1 and the Wall Street Collapse were major occurences but these didn't affect Halure too much as it was a generally self sustaining country. The country had

A Dutch Farmhouse being Burnt

few insidents such as the continued problem with Keyermen who had become much like biker gangs in the Western World yet even more violent. They generally based themselves outside the towns and villages in hut cabins where they'd brew illegal beer, sell guns and continue in other illegal activities. The Keyermen also had a heartland in the Unclaimed sector of land in the south west of the country called the Silent Quarter.

The country also had incidents to the end of the silent period when the Keyermen became less feared and the Fascists became the group to hate. The Fascists unlike in Europe weren't organized groups of Political leaders, they were chaotic groups of Dutch and Spanish who ran around killing people then escaping into the forrest. Many of the Fascists were converted Keyermen and they generally ran the upon the same principals except the Fascists had rallys and meetings between the members, they also had manifestos and often advertized people to join and become part of the groups. By the defeat of Nazi Germany many of the fascists lost hope in ever becoming leaders of Halure, some emigrated back to their ancestors countries such as the Netherlands and Spain, others reformed and became average citizens. Although many moved or reformed many still stayed and continued their violent activities but on a smaller scale and more openly, it is still popular to hear of people being kidnapped for ransom by modern day Keyermen, especially in the Silent Quarter where kidnapp is becoming more and more of a problem.

The United Halure Party and Reforms[]

The United Halure Party or UHP was a political party that operated around Halure. It was founded by a group of men who were disarayed by the system and constant arguing of the Political parties. They each signed the Petition for a United Halure which dispalyed their wishes for a Future United Halurean Coalition Government. The Petition Had seven rights which they wished to be displayed and used as part of a national coalition, they were:

  • One United Coalition: A United Coalition of every Halurean Party, each co-operating in unity and freedom.
  • One Halurean People: One People under the Halurean Flag regardless of Ethnicity, Colour or Religion.
  • One Premier: One leader who is voted in by the elected parliament who is limited by the parliament however free to lead the country.
  • One Capital: There shall be one seat of government, business, law and the Premier.
  • Free and Fair Polls: Free and Fair Polls showing the wishes of the people and their needs and wants.
  • The Rules of the Univeral Declaration of Human Rights: Everything in the UDoHR shall be respected and agreed upon.
  • Respect towards the Rules: All of these rights and rules shall be respected by the Government, if it abuses it their employment shall be terminated.

These were writen and signed by the founders of the UHP, they then went on to reproduce the document and post it to around 100 houses around the area where they were based (They were based in the town of Renwasoowuin near Yaorwain), the movement quickly gained pace with simmilarly minded people starting to 'wake up from the dream of democracy' as said in the words of one of the first signers. The movement was also very different to that of other political movements as it had no figurehead but instead had members who were each entitled to their own opinion and political position so long as they agreed to work together.

The Government of Halure was very weary of the movement as they weren't willing to co-operate with the other parties as it seemed 'preposterous', however some members saw this new movement as a new begining after the many years of tedious arguements and beaurocracy of the Democratic system of the Republic of Halure. Several Halurean politicians soon joined the movement as they saw it as a 'good idea' and a refreshing way of thinking compared to other systems. The other politicians generally critisized the movement as Communists munipulating the system and they also pointed out the fact that it would be hard for most of the politicians to

infact get along with eachother saying that it would eventually become a One Party state feared by the people. Although they had condemned the movement the joining of several politicians to the movement officially marked its transition from a localized movement based around a small town in Walowin Province.

The movement began to even result in mass protests in Kotan with people begining to sign the petition in their millions, meanwhile the somewhat disconnected President described the movement as a minor phase and that it would blow over. However, it kept getting bigger and bigger with international attention turning to the country. both the USA and USSR condemned the movement and the President of the USA, Harry S. Truman described it as 'people protesting their way into a dictatorship'. The International view upon the situation in Halure was that it was a dicatorship in waiting, leaked documents from the time even show President Trumans willingness to invade the country before it became a dictatorship however as history shows he didn't invade and the protests just kept growing and growing.

By 1952 the country had, had a year of protests with violence hitting them on several occasions. The government had played the waiting game and they'd hoped to wait it out until the protests died down however this hadn't occured and finnaly they crumbled. On the 15th February 1952 the Halurean Government finnaly decided to disolve itself and the UHP formed a coalition with the remenants of the former parties. The UHP instantly began to sign up fresh new politicians to make fresh new policies which they would assign to a party according to their beliefs. The UHP assigned the former speaker (new President) to make a speech infront of one million people live and over 45 million across the country, here is the beginning of his speech:

"Citizens, Countrymen, we have acomplished what was a year ago thought of as impossible. We have created what shall be a model for our children, our children's children and so on, this day shall go down in history as the day when we opened our eyes, the day when we dared to dream, the day when dreams turned into reality, today is our day, today is the day for us. The People of this great nation have toiled and suffered under the opression of Democracy, Despots, Kings and Theives, finnaly you the people can be proud to call yourself part of one of the most groundbreaking, unique and free societies upon this green and lush earth..."
- Ooyad Wuwita, Speaker of the former Halurean Republic (new Premier)

International Halure and Utopia[]

Halure was in the 60's considered a 'hip' place to be with many artists and musicians arriving here to paint the vast lanscapes. The Beatles toured here alongside local singers and musicians, they also produced some of their best work whilst on tour in Halure. Artists such as Pablo Picasso, even though he was in his late 80's was described as obsessed with Halure even drawing several paintings based upon what he knew of the country. The

Halurean Projects

Housing Projects in Halure

country by 1963 had become a hub for tourists wanting to visit an alternative destination. Meanwhile in the north of the country housing projects were being constructed to house the many emigrating former tribesmen who were looking for jobs, this first generation saw the housing projects and though of them as wonders compared to their old housing which was a wooden shack. They also didn't know much about how pay and jobs work so they worked for long hours for little pay, however this was seen as a average thing and being payed much was unheard of. The First generation is often critisized by the current generation who call them stupid and poor.

The country really became international when the many multinational corporations placed foot holds in the country. MacDonalds opened up shop and Shell began to explore for oil, things were looking up. The Country had been deemed a success story by the international community, they still however condemned its type of government however it said that it would be a good example excluding the fact its a one party state. Halure was also deemed a Utopia compared to several other South American nations with many people from poorer South American states emigrating to Halure as it was seen as a safe and secure place where you would be given the tools to your success upon arrival, however this wasn't always the Case and by the 1970's they had begun to realize this.

The Harsh Truth and Light at the End of the Tunnel[]

In Halure by 1970 the magic and romance of the revolution had worn off and the Harsh truth had been uncovered.

70's Protests

Protests in the 70's

The lowercalsses were being manipulated by the many multinational corportations who were paying them one dollar a week to do the job which required much effort. The country again began to start to ask what the revolution had acomplished, the population of the country began to protest and riot. The projects had become a heartland for crime with Keyermen running the place, they seemed to provide fairness out of the chaos whilst still murdering and pillaging the government. By 1974 the whole country was either on strike or murdering each other, people were very angry with the government and its refusal to meet promices. Racial riots had begun after the Dutch Fascists encited racial hatrid for the natives plus the workers were denied better pay. The chaos just kept spiraling out of controll until an adress was made by the Premier:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, our country has become a hotbed for terror and suffering, that same suffering we tried to stop just 20 years ago, and now today we have become a place renound for violence and hate, that is why I am announcing the Freedom Petition..."
-Dakuey Ruyoo, Former Premier of Halure

The Freedom Petition was established by the government as to see if it would be popular enought to re ajust the rules and laws of the country. Here is the principles of the Petition:

  • The Minimum Wage: The Minimum Wage shall be raised so people can sustain a happy healthy family.
  • Universal Health Care: Everyone has the right to free treatment funded by the Taxpayer.
  • Workers Rights: The Workers have the right for fair treatment in the workplace.
  • Right to Quit: Workers have the right to quit any job at anytime for any reason.
  • Freedom of Choice: Workers have the freedom to choose their jobs and where they work.

This petition had more support from the government that the Petition for a United Halure and was pushed easily through the government. The public also dispalyed massive support for the bill eventhough it would cost them heavily by raising taxes to pay for the Healthcare and Minimum Wage eventhough the VAT of Halure was already one of the highest taxes on earth.

Peace, Boom and Bust[]

Halure since the signing of the Freedom petition had boomed with the economy gaining massive funding from the Multinational corportations who founded their South American HQ in Halure and Bonwain, Sashwain boomed aswell and was dubbed the Silicon Valley of South America, with companies such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Sony all founding their South American HQ's in Sashwain. In this period their wealth was displayed by the massive transport construction schemes such as the Bonwain, Aiwain, Haluwain and Rigazach Raro (Metro/Subway/Underground), the massive cross country highways or Artoteok (Car: Arto, Road: Teok) and the Halurean High Speed Rail (or Thathisera). Other grand projects include the construction of thousands of Hospitals and Schools in the more impoverished areas of Halure, the tarmacing of many sideroads and the Reseravtions and National Parks Act creating thousands of Reservations for the indigenous population plus National Parks to keep the landscape preserved.

Sashwain Towers

Skyscrapers in Sashwain

Halure funded all this when in 1990 Shell discovered Oil off the Northern coast of Halure in the Ye Ocean, this funded the country spurring it on into the Future creating what Time Magazine dubbed a State of Luck, however this wasn't to last forever as the Government of Halure discovered in 2001 when the economy of Halure collapsed in a massive bust, taking down several Halurean corportations and severely weakening companies such as ING, Yahoo and Microsoft. They still invested money into the country however they had begun to relocated to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. In the modern age Halure is still a prosperous county just not on such a grand scale as in the 90's, however the companies that left in 2001 eventually returned but only on a small scale with small bases but their main HQ's in Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. Current problems facing Halure are the Gay Marriage Debate, Gun Politics and the Drugs Debate these are currently being concidered and could be adopted at any time.

Politics[]

Halure has a very unique political system it is technically one party state which actually has parties and votes which can be disgared if the Politicans agree all of this is branded under Halurean Government. There are no ruling parties however anyone can join a party and hope to be selected as part of the Government if they're lucky enough. It has been described as a rule of the masses, rule of luck and a mass dictatoriship, whatever your view is on Halure it has been successful since the 1950's in ruling the country and most Halureans will be proud of their government. There are disadvantages to this form of government such as the fact many people will take advantage of the system and become a politician in hope of making billions however there has been action to combat this and any politician seen to be involved in a scandal can be fired if the parliament votes for it. Halure recently created the YouPoll Halure site (www.youpoll-halure.gov.hl) on which any Halurean citizen can vote on Polls which will be debated by the government, if it is successful it could be put to a vote and eventually placed as law.

Halurean Parties

The Party Logos of Halure

The Halurean Constitution is made up of the Freedom Petition and United Halure Petition plus several other laws and acts which were adopted seperately, each Premier has to sign the consitiution before becoming the Premier and this is displayed in the Hall of the Constitution in Aiwain, the Capital. Aiwain was originally a patch of rainforest with lush vegitation and a few fishing settlements however after the establishment of the new government in 1952 they moved the capital to a new fresh city (and currently the third largest city). Over a period of 30 years Aiwain has become the home for politicians and artists with the city being a very cultural and reserved city compared to some other cities around Halure due to its political nature.

There are three main parties which each have sub-parties, they are: The Left Party, The Right Party and The Centre Party. They each have representitives in each Halurean Province meaning that there are 51 seats in Parliament which can be filled by the leaders of the parties in each state, this means that in the country each party has equal representation and therefore can have an equal input in the governing of the country. Politicans can be chosen for their job by other Politicians usually the Premier or other major party leaders. They interview every person running for the job. However, if they don't like them, then they won't get hired, by this principal the politican can be chosen for their qualifications and not the ammount of money in their pocket or their connections. Contrary to popular belief Halure has a system of penalty in which if someone bribes or acts in a corrupt manner they are banned from Parliament for a certain ammount of time which is determined by a vote, if they continue to be corrupt or commit a serious crime then they can be fired and their position will become available. People are also allowed to view the functions of Parliament however if they are disruptive they shall be removed or even arrested, the most notable case of this was a Gay Rights actavist who began to shout provocative slogans at the politicans, he was removed and arrested, this sparked a debate over Gay rights and weather they should be released from jail on bail or fully released (if you have noticed that there is no stated name of the offender, this is because Halurean law prevents the release of personal information about a suspect unless they affect the country itself or commit an extemely serious crime).

Halure is rated 46th on the Corruption Perceptions Index the same a Lithuania and Macau, it is regarded as a partially free country on the Freedom in the World survey by Freedom House however it is contested weather it deserved this position.

Foreign Relations[]

Halure has an official policy of Neutrality on international politics meaning that it will abstain on most UN topics and form few or no alliances. It generaly has health relations with most countries on Earth and several buildings across Halure reflect this such as the Mao Zendong Healthcare Centre in Yaorwain, Attaturk Conference Centre in Unidad and the Harold MacMillan Building in Betu. Although it has an official policy of Neutrality it has been known to vote on several UN resolutions such as the Invasion of Afghanistan, the Invasion of Libya and other major resolutions. Halure has also been described as a country which 'Silently Judges You' according to the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and an 'Quiet Ally' by the French President Nicholas Sarkozy. It has strong and Healthy ties with Switzerland a fellow neutal nation and Costa Rica, a simmilarly pacifist nation.

Halure has a policy of National Pacifism which means it wont decalre war on anyone unless A. They're going against all of the policies of the Constitution of Halure and they won't be going in alone or B. They're invaded. This national Pacifism has been praised by many people across the world as it has been seen as the only way to avoid world wide conflicts. It is belived that the Idea of National Pacifism came from the original Petition signers who were inspired to not have another War of Chaos on the Halurean Continent.

Military[]

The Military of Halure is owned officially by the Public who decide how much funding goes into it via the Polls,

Halurean Aircraft Carrier

The HNS Katuk

however with all polls it can be tweeked with by the Premier. The military of Halure is made up of hree departments: the Pacifist Army of Halure (PAH), Civilian Air Force (CAF) and Defensive Navy of Halure (DNH), these are each controlled by an appointed head of Department who controls the running of their chosen department. Halure doesn't have Nuclear Weapons and has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and succesfuly removed all Nuclear Warheads, it also backs the disarmament of all Weapons of Mass Distruction accusing it of being against Human Rights. Halure doesn't release the official figures of how many vehicles or soldiers there are in the army and it is regared as a matter of national security, however there are estimates by independent sources who say they may have as much as over one million soldiers to as few as 3000, so many people don't rely upon these figures.

Halure has a limited border force which patrols its borders but only loosely, the main factor for this is that Drugs and Guns are legal in Halure meaning the only thing to look out for is Human trafficing which is becoming a big problem for the Halurean Government with approx. 2000 people being abducted by either Gangs, Keyermen or Fascists for use in the Modern Day slave trade. The UN has also helped Halure deal with this problem which is hopefully going to die down in the next few years.

Geography[]

Each Province is administered jointly by the Leaders of the Left, Right and Centre Parties of each province, they only make small localized decisions but the Premier and Parliament make more general and important decisions. Halure is an Island located on the Nazaca Plate in the South-Eastern Pacific Ocean. Due to its unique position on the Earth and erosion affects Halure has an oddly square shape compared to other landmasses. It is also divided in two by the Ren, Lo and Hen Rivers which all start in ether the French Mountains or Silent Quarter and they all then run down into the Rini or Delta. The North of the country is also seperate to other areas due to the large French Mountains seperating it from other areas, the Spanish Hills to the East also seperate the country from other areas but on a more minor scale. Halure is also dominated by several major lakes such as Lake Aiwain which is the largest in the country, Lake Halure which is basically just a widening of the Halure River and the Boer Lake which lies to the south of Boerendam. In recent years they've also constructed several reservoirs which have flooded large swaths of land such as the North Toore River Dam projects and the Tub Reservoir.

Img006

Red: Reservations Light Green: National Parks Dark Green: Wilderness

There are in all 45 Special Areas of Halure, 22 of which are Indingenous Reservations, 20 National Parks and three Wildernesses. The Wildernesses are very unique as no one can develop anything inside these areas appart from several Huts and boundry markers, the Wildernesses are quite large and there have been protests that they should be reduced in size so Tribes can reclaim their former territories however the government has stood strong on the subject. The Highest Point in the country is Mount Caspian (Utyen Kada) at 4122 m (or 13,523 ft) which lies in the French Mountains and is a popular skiing destination and has snow on all year round. The lowest point is the Durichat Marshes near the river Ren in the Rini, it is a place up for consideration as a nature reserve as to protect the many birds that flock their every year in the Spring.

The Major rivers in Halure are (from longest to shortest): Ren, Lo, Hen, Toore, Sil, Sash, Halure and Or. They generally run in one of three places:The Rini Basin, The Suyewin Basin or The Halure Basin. Those rivers in historic times were used as roads are used today, many settlements set up on the rivers and almost all of the Major cities lie on one of these rivers. The Rivers are also very heavily polluted the further down stream you get and there has been a need to clean the rivers since the industrialization of the country and there are currently calls from several countries for Halure to clean up its rivers.

Climate[]

Halure has several different climates from the Thoonari Desert in the south where camels have been introduced to the cold tops of the French Mountains and everything in between. In the South of the country it is mainly filled with temperate rainforests and vast praries meanwhile to the north it is more tropical with no Winter or Summer (except in the Mountains) and just Wet and Dry Seasons. The average temperate in the Capital of Halure, Aiwain (which is located in the centre of the country) is 18*C in July and 25*C in December however this can vary. It rains often in Aiwain. However, it can sometimes - if you're lucky - sleet and very rarely snow, the rainy season is in Winter as clouds move in from the south of the country and remain for a while, Fog can commonly be seen comming off Lake Aiwain and flooding the city in a blanket of cloud, this can commonly turn to smog and there has been a large campain to convert the city to totally clean energy and establish a congestion charge in the centre of the city.

The Hottest place in Halure is the small Oasis of Thuach in the middle of the Thoonari Desert where temperatures reached a massive high of 55*C, the coldest place is the town of Orututyenwuin or Two Mountain Village, which lies between two mountains in the French Mountains, they trap the cold air dropping the temperatures to around -43*C and freezing the village each year (in 1965 the temperature dropped to a record -70 with the village having no source of heat they had to leave on Mass via helicopters due to the extreme cold).

Biodiversity[]

Due to Halures Isolation from the outer world it has many unique creatures such as the Koku or Cuscus which is related to possums however looks different to any other creature. The Halurean Sloth Bear which is unique to the island and the symbol for many states. There are also Huarizo (Thooraso) which exist across the country and are used as work animals and sometimes as pets much like Lamas or Camels. These unique animals also co-exist with many other non native creatures such as Dogs, Horses, Camels and Brown Bears which all live across the country in large numbers, however there are some unwelcome creatures such as the Sparrowhawk which roams around the country killing many mice and other small mammals. Wales can be seen to the south of the country during the summer where it is very popular for more wealthy tourists to go on whale cruises looking for the many that roam the ocean, Harper Penguins which are unique to the island also exist on the southern most areas of the country and are very unique due to the fact they have thinned out their coat and generally fish for fish around the Rini and Kotan, however they are being threatened by pollution which is killing many of the animals off.

Economy[]

In the past two decade Halure went from the most prosperous South American nation to one of the worst off and then to somwhere in the middle. It is currently in a stable position with much money being injected into the economy by the Government who wish to stop it collapsing or following the rest of the world into crisis. Halure does have a lot of potential with there vast untapped resources located throughout the country, oil has been discovered which made it one of the richest countries in South America however this is rapidly running out but gold, copper and tin mines are becoming the new way to make money off Halures natural resources with the city of Silwain in the North of the country being quite famous for its prosperous mining industry (it is even nicknamed the Silver City), this has produced much revenue for the country which already has a high income. Even though it has tonnes of money it isn't shared equally between the population and has a high economic equality, this is because of the vast Projects in the major cities in which people dont have as much of a chance of becoming rich or prosperous due to the bad educationa and gangland violence plus it is also because of the poverty the many Tribes are subject to in the many reserves which have been described as the 'Home of Poverty in Halure' by the Premier.

The official currency of Halure is the Woo (+) which is a mildly weak currency, the Woo isn't the only currency used in Halure there are regional currencies such as the Haloor Gilder and the Thoonari Cheach which help produce more money for the local areas. The Halurean GDP has been growing since 2003 after a stagnant period before the economic downturn, it is currently expected to grow eventhough there is a risk of more downturn due to the international economic crisis. Unemployment is also becoming a bigger and bigger problem due to the increasing lack of jobs however there is a plan to produce more jobs by creating several Halurean homegrown companies which will produce more money from areas not usually very productive in Halure such as Car manufacturing and Ship building.

Mining[]

Silwain Open Cast Mine

Silwain Open Cast Mine

As mentioned before Mining is the up and coming main source of income with over 4% of income in the economy coming from the Mining Industry. There are around 145 mines around Halure however there may be more illegal mining operations in the jungles where Fascists and Keyermen have exploited the local population. The Mines are run officially by the General Mining Board of Halure or the GMBH, it provides Bus services for the miners to and from the mine, freight train services and pays for insurance against death and injury, it was notourious in the late 70's for being very dangerous and risky business. However, safety records have improved since then with fatalities being reduced from on average five a year to just one - or sometimes zero.
