There is no known method of detection faster than a hyperspace signature. However, by switching away from using hyperspace pinging to using active hyperspace signatures, warpcraft are able to cut down on the time that the signal is going out, allowing detection data to arrive twice as quickly. Since the timeliness of this data is effectively what determines a detector's range, this effectively doubles the range of the detector.
