Juan Delmago circa 1755

Juan Delmago (May 16, 1721 - 28 August 1779) was a Spanish-born naval officer who served in the Royal British Navy from 1744 to 1767.

In 1760, he was commissioned by King George III of the United Kingdom to chart and survey the islands in the Indian Ocean. Delmago commanded HMS Wessex on this voyage, and he became the first European explorer to discover the Georgeland archipelago.

Upon his return to Britain, Delmago was promoted to the rank of Captain and given an honorary retirement from the Royal Navy. He died in 1779.
