KPS has been a part of the Koiwai Metropolitan Government since 1829. Now, the governor appoints the school board that oversees the system. The school system is currently run by CEO Mary Havendell appointed by the school board in the summer of 2008, Dr. Havendell officially began work on July 1, 2008. Dr. Havendell comes from the Ivalion Department of Education, where she served as deputy chancellor to the current chancellor Joel I. Klein.
There are several public elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in the city. The largest school in physical size in Koiwai is Malcolm Gardens High School. The district also holds the third oldest public high school in America, Ulei City College; and the oldest all girl public high school, Western High School.
