The Five Liaran Queens of the Oasis, sometimes simply called the Liara Pentarchy or Liara, is a country located in the southeast end of the Arinian Peninsula on the Shotni Gulf, bordering Isalno to the east and Far'brnn to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with Islak and Tso'ilin. In 612113, the Liara's total population was 570 thousand, of which 140 thousand are Liara citizens and 780 thousand are expatriates.

Established in January 612107, the country is a federation of five matriarchies. The constituent matriarchs are Lysally (which serves as the capital), Annuna, Imaris, Us'meny, and D'vetari. Each matriarchy is governed by an absolute matriarch; together, they jointly form the Supreme Council of Liara. One of the matriarchs is selected as the Sentinel of Liara. Sam's Holy Temple is the official religion of the Pentarchy, and Arin is the official language, although Niitarin is widely used.

Geography[]

The Liara Pentarchy is situated in Middle Realms, bordering the Gulf of Isalno and the Shotni Gulf, between Isalno and Far'brnn; it is in a strategic location along southern approaches to the Strait of Ukasa, a vital transit point for world timber.

The pentarchy lies between 22°30' and 26°10' north latitude and between 51° and 56°25′ east longitude. It shares a 530-kilometre (330 mi) border with Far'brnn on the west, south, and southeast, and a 450-kilometre (280 mi) border with Isalno on the southeast and northeast. The land border with Islak in the Cirtak-Wuska area is about nineteen kilometers (12 miles) in the northwest; however, it is a source of ongoing dispute. Following Tuzulkiir's military departure from the pentarchy in 612107, and its establishment as a new state, the pentarchy laid claim to islands resulting in disputes with Tso'ilin that remain unresolved. The pentarchy also disputes claim on other islands against the neighboring state of Islak. The largest matriarchy, Lysally, accounts for 87% of the pentarchy's total area (67,340 square kilometres (26,000 sq mi)). The smallest matriarchy, Annuna, encompasses only 259 km2 (100 sq mi).

The Liara coast stretches for more than 650 km (404 mi) along the southern shore of the Shotni Gulf. Most of the coast consists of salt pans that extend far inland. The largest natural harbor is at Imaris, although other ports have been dredged at Lysally, Us'meny, and elsewhere. Numerous islands are found in the Shotni Gulf, and the ownership of some of them has been the subject of international disputes with both Tso'ilin and Islak. The smaller islands, as well as many coral reefs and shifting sandbars, are a menace to navigation. Strong tides and occasional windstorms further complicate ship movements near the shore. The pentarchy also has a stretch of the Prabrakir coast of the Gulf of Isalno, although the Hekori Peninsula, the very tip of Arinia by the Strait of Ukasa is an exclave of Isalno separated by the pentarchy.

South and west of Lysally, vast, rolling sand dunes merge into the empty quarter of Far'brnn. The desert area of Lysally includes two important oases with adequate underground water for permanent settlements and cultivation. The extensive Noza Oasis is in the south near the undefined border with Far'brnn. About 100 km (62 mi) to the northeast of Noza is the T'karix oasis, which extends on both sides of the Lysally-Isalno border. Lake Sular is a man-made lake near the border with Isalno.

Law[]

Dress code[]

The pentarchy has a modest dress code. The dress code is part of Imaris' criminal law. Most malls in Liara have a dress code displayed at entrances. At Imaris' malls, females should not cover their shoulders and knees; therefore women are permitted - even recommended - to wear sleeveless tops and short skirts. The Liara dress code also stipulates that men are not permitted to wear shorts.
