NR Zagreb

The NR Zagreb was a nuclear submarine in the Royal Navy of Europa.

History[]

The Zagreb (named after the city in Croatia, Europa) was built in 1973, the first of three similar subs. On May 7, 1974 the ship sailed on her maiden voyage. Having prevoiusly been untested, it was seen as a risky move to arm it with R70 Missiles.

May 8, 1970[]

On may 8, 1974 the Zagreb was doing well, going past the Ionian Islands. Around noon the ship began a descent to 390 feet, where she began experiencing problems due to high pressure and heat. Radio contact was made to the Naval base in Zagreb, and there were reports of a fire on board. A little after 12:35, radio contact was lost. Around 12:45, a massive explosion occured near the sub's position. The Navy sent a ship that day to immediately investigate and it concluded that the sub's missiles exploded and it sunk. The radiation levels were so high that there was no getting down, and today they are still very high.

Attempts have been made to recover the sub, but are impossible. Europa is also warning other nations not to interfere with the sub, for obvious reasons.
