The National Guard of the Allied States is the home guard militant force of the Allied States of America, which acts as a last line of defense against foreign invasion, local uprising, terrorism, or civil disobedience. Members (referred to as Guardsmen or, more recently, Peacekeepers) are allowed to hold full-time civilian jobs, however, are required to attend training and/or briefing sessions every fortnight. In times of need, these Guardsmen are required to be active at all times, suspending their normal civilian lives. As of April 2012, the National Guard is completely independent from both the Army and Navy, thus no "army" National Guard or "air" National Guard exists anymore. The Department of Homeland Security is federally in control of the National Guard, however state governors remain the commanders-in-chief of their respected state's division. Thus, also part of the April Reformation, states don't have their own guards anymore; each state is assigned its own formation. The Allied States Coast Guard, like the National Guard, is independent from the military and is also a part of the Department of Homeland Security. The Civil Defense Initiative is a component of the National Guard.

Civil Defense Initiative[]

The Civil Defense Initiative is a project undertaken by the Allied States government to in some way or another, train the civilian populous of and have them more invasion-ready, without being soldiers. Citizens can freely volunteer at any local National Guard Office. They will, after completing very basic training and passing a psyche test, receive documents which allow them to own a military-grade weapon. Usually, they will receive a basic M4 Carbine and a pistol without modifications or attachments.
