Track configuration[]

Since 1995, the tracks have been in two levels, when a tunnel was constructed for northwest-southeast-trains to bypass the intersecting tracks of Savonian Railway. As of 2009, there are at ground level:

  • 5 tracks for stopping trains;
  • 1 track for passing trains;
  • 2 terminal tracks for trains to/from Jyväskylä, Tampere etc.

and at tunnel

  • 4 tracks for stopping trains.

Pieksämäki track configuration

Note from the configuration picture, that tracks 7 and 8 do not exist. Formerly they were terminal tracks for eastbound (Joesuu, Varkaus, Savonlinna) trains, but were demolished in 1999. There will be tracks 7 and 8 again in 2013, between levels -1 and -2, some 5 meters below ground level, west of the station building. They will be used by Sigone trains and KSL lines 4 and 7.
