The Tenraku Ecocity Pyramid is a proposed project for construction of a massive pyramid over downtown Chiwon in Surea. When complete, the structure would house more than 900,000 people. This pyramid would help answer Konggei's increasing lack of space, although the project would only handle 9/100th of the Greater Konggei Area's population. The idea partially stems from the vision architectural marvel of the Shimizu Corporation. It was annouced that the construction of the megastructure will began on 10th January 2010.

Design[]

The project is headed by Tenraku Group. Initiated in 2009, the project is projected to cost US$120 billion and take some fifteen years to build. The pyramid is planned to cover 6 square kilometres (2.3 sq mi) and will be home to 900,000 people and500,000 businesses, primarily commercial and manufacturing facilities specialising in environmentally-friendly products, and more than 1,500,000 workers are expected to commute to the city daily. It will also be the location of several educational institutions including a university, the Shinjo University (新城大學). The tallest building, the SkyPillar, is 2250m high. Automobiles will be banned within the city; travel will be accomplished via public mass transit and personal rapid transit systems, with existing road and railways connecting to other locations outside the city.

Tenraku Ecocity Pyramid will be the latest of a small number of highly planned, specialized, research and technology-intensive municipalities that incorporate a living environment.

Usage[]

The building would be zoned into residential, commercial and leisure areas. 50% would be given over to some 300,000 housing units, enough for 900,000 people. Each building would have its own energy resources (sun and wind). About 25% would be assigned to offices and commercial facilities intended to employ 1,000,000 people, 15% would be used for research and leisure purposes, and the remaining 10% would be used for walkway and transportation.

Some advantages include that this city would have more rapid mobility, that the city will be better protected from tsunamis, and that it helps solve the high-prices for land in Greater Konggei Area.

Ideally, as the city's name indicates, it will be powered by renewable energy. Photovoltaic films will be coated at the trusses and wind turbine will be placed at every joint of the trusses. Furthermore, algae is also used to power the pyramid.
