Turku Metro is the rapid transit system of Turku, Finland. It has two lines as of May 2009.

Line 1[]

The first section of Line 1 was opened in 1968. The construction of the line was special, as it was done by digging a tunnel from Vähäjoki and Aurajoki rivers to the sea south of the downtown. With this tunnel, Aurajoki and Vähäjoki riverbeds were drained and the metro infrastructure was built in concrete below the rivers. When the construction was complete, the rivers were let to flow again in their former path. The water tunnels were then converted to automobile use.
