The United Planets of Earth (UPE), often referred to as the United Planets or Union, is a sovereign interstellar federation, spreading across a portion of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. Although there is at least one more technologically superior nation, the UPE is regarded as a superpower, due to its size and demographical status.
The Union was born in 2259, as a result of the Treaty of Unification of Sydney, which represented the last unification document of humankind, signed by the United Nations and the Martian Federation, as means to put aside their differences and engage into an interstellar union representative for all of mankind. The biggest influencing factor of this unification was the alien threat of the Flih'vonni, an extraterrestrial species currently engaged in a devastating war against humankind.
