Vihriäsaari is a district of Oulu. It includes the eponymous island near the Oulu Center, as well as another island, Öljysaari, nearby.
Construction of the residential area of Vihriäsaari started in 1995, when the industrial facilities of the island were demolished. The residential development began from the vicinity of the main road, Hietasaarentie, continuing toward the sea. 15,000 people resided here by 2005 and 20,000 by early 2009. When the development is ready, which is due to occur in 2013, the district is expected to have 23,000 inhabitants.
The island is served by three metro stations on two lines: Öljyväylä station on Line 5, Rommakonselkä station on Line 4 and Vihriäsaari station on both of those lines.
