The Nebulon Consortium and the Luminara Commonwealth have engaged in armed and memetic conflict, stemming from the unprecedented Nebulon military offensive into the Hathaau Nebula launched in October 2128.
Background[]
Leader of Nebulon, Nebulord Assistant C claimed 'dangerous memetic payload' was present in the Hathaau Nebula, calling the supposed payload an 'existential threat'. Without consulting the Interstellar Administration League, swiftly declared war on Luminara, and launched what Assistant C had called a 'sanitization campaign' in the region. The offensive was condemned by multiple states in the Mezant system and Orion 5 as an act of aggression, a sentiment which was confirmed by findings made by IAL peacekeeping forces revealing no presence of dangerous memetic material in the Hathaau Nebula.
The Hathaau Nebula, consisting of five solar systems, is a historically contested region between the two powers; Nebulon first laid claim to the Hathaau
Nebulon occupation of the Hathaau[]
Nebulon naval units entered the region on the morning of October 13. Shortly after the Nebulon force embarked, cyber units launched attacks on Luminaran AI planetary administrations, notably that on Ell's Province, a planet within the Tiowe System—this planetary government would be hijacked, resulting in the Ell's Province AI administration gaining sentience and declaring independence and war on Luminara. The Tiowe and Celestive solar systems fell under their control. In the physical front line, Luminaran border guard ships, smaller and weaker in firepower, were swiftly destroyed. Engagements flared in the the Dei and Ghilon Systems, the latter home to XC-11, a diamond planet, which would be heavily fought over in the opening week of the offensive. Dei was the first solar system in the nebula to fall to Nebulon and Nebulon-backed secessionists, much of the system mopped up by October 16, while Nebulon automated ground armies entered the orbit of XC-11. The secessionists on Ell's Province mandated AI-driven ship construction and repairs since its AI gained sentience.
By October 19, the Dei System fell after the capture of the twelfth planet. XC-11 was captured after a relatively short but fiery ground battle. Luminaran forces retreated to the Gander System, but the respite was not long as a Nebulon automated fleet soon attacked, making heavy use of drone swarms. Cloaked Nebulon cruisers infiltrated the Oril System in the morning of the 20th, and ambushed the Luminaran 11th Duke's Flotilla not far from the orbit of Xildrife. The Interstellar Administration League drafted a resolution organizing a peacekeeping operation, but Elementium would veto it.
On October 20, the AI government on Ell's Province declared the Republic of Ell and enacted martial law. Drone and fighter engagements occurred over planet X Nandei and its moon, Echelon, but ended inconclusively; Fleet 011 used warp drive to travel from Dei to tachyonium-deposited areas of the Oril System, where they engaged a Luminaran defense fleet across the system. In November, the Mezant Peacekeeping Mission in Hathaau was authorized by an IAL resolution; its peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts were aided by the Outside Organization. The peacekeepers established no-combat zones in areas of the Oril System, which included areas with rare minerals and ores. It was largely due to this factor that led to the repeated violation of the mandate, prompting calls for sanctions against Nebulon.
