The people of Zekig have a unique naming custom. Unlike most cultures, where babies are named after objects or adjectives, most names are meaningless.

Name structure

Given name

Given names are 3 syllables long. The maximum name structure is CLVN/b/lCLVN/s/lCLVC, where C is any consonant, L is a liquid (r/l), V is a vowel, and N is a nasal (m/n).

Consonant (cluster) 1 can either be empty or: Bl, Br, Cl, Cr, Dr, G, L, M, N, T, V, Vr, or Z.

Consonant (cluster) 2 can be: b, bc, bcl, bcr, bl, br, bs, bt, btr, cl, cr, d, dr, g, l, lb, lbr, lc, lcr, ld, ldr, lg, lz, mb, mbl, mbr, nd, ndr, nz,' r, or s.

Consonant (cluster) 3 can be: b, bl, br, cl, cr, d, dr, g, l, lb, lbr, lc, lcr, ld, ldr, lv, lvr, lg, lz, mb, mbl, mbr, nd, ndr, nv, nvr, nz, v, vr, or z.

The final consonant is never a cluster, as it would otherwise violate Zekigian's syllable structure. It can either be empty (the last vowel is a or ei) or b, g, l, m, n, or r.

Every consonant cluster mentioned in the above paragraphs are separated by an epenthetic vowel that is predictable based on the preceding and following consonants.

Almost all given names are gender neutral, but some are specific to either boys or girls. Based on consonants alone, there are exactly 91140 given names, far more than any other culture.

Surname

Surnames are 2 syllables long. Like given names, most are meaningless, but due to the syllable structure, some have an actual meaning.
